I currently use my own resources such as printed tangible maps and so forth to prepare for a hunt. i have been hearing of people talking of a web site where you can view the old roads and places of an area and compare it over lay on top of a newer map to get a 'general idea" of whats what....???????????

This is probably NOT the one your looking for but its a pretty cool resource. Go to:
Satellite Views
Choose your state, then it gives you a list of choices to look for like parks, schools cemeteries and more. When you choose what your looking for it gives a list, some are current, some are marked (historical) and are gone. BUT the site gives the GPS coordinates so you can use your GPS or Google Earth to check the area out. Its helped me find school sites that are not there anymore, also with Google Earth its helped me find the nearest house to go ask permission to hunt.

chep, I got the low down from this site. Really awesome maps.

I have used Historic Mapworks with much success. They used to have a feature where you could overlay the old map onto a google earth image. However, I don't see that feature on site anymore. North American Historic Maps and Atlases from Historic Map Works I believe google earth will let you overlay images onto it (Add < Image Overlay).

I believe the overlay feature is still available................at $125 or so a year!!!!! You have to subscribe to the "pro" version.
