I found this cool old fob (or is it a medal?!!) yesterday on a site that has seen activity for well over a hundred years and is close by areas that were settled on by early Americans in this part of the country, as well as Civil War activity. The particular site, however, is a fallen down log cabin that dates to just about 100 years ago or so. I realize that it's probably just an initial A for someone's last name but am hoping on the small chance that it may mean something more specific and special (Artillery for example.......). Was just wondering if anyone here has seen anything like it before and has any idea on date? No markings other than the large script A on the front which stands out rather high in relief. Been pretty slim pickin's lately for my relic hunts, this was the only good find on the area I was looking at (am hoping that a fall visit when brush....and ticks/chiggers...are gone will turn up some more goodies but there's a lot of trash there so who knows).
