Anyone know anything about 1800s pad locks?

Now on the lock cover plate I see what looks like a crown and below that looks like V P. Then maybe some word that appears to start with a V at bottom. I apologize for crummy pics but I figure by the shape and what I described we should be able to figure out maker. Edit: Its a capital V R not v p .

You are correct with the 1800s date

That makes sense, in late 1850s area had a huge construction project going.

cool lock. The word at the bottom of the cover is most likely PATENT. Don't know if you can see it or not.
