Anyone in the Tampa Bay area?

I am totally new to metal detecting, so I don't even know where to go to dig up some stuff!! Anyone recommend somewhere for me?

Welcome to our hobby!

A good place to start is one of the local beaches. Most around Tampa are open, except for the county parks in Pinellas County and most state parks (DeSoto does allow beach hunting only.)

As I mentioned, the beaches are an good way to get to know the tones of your detector, as you can dig stuff without much effort unlike the hardpan inshore dirt.

I will be in Tampa majority of the week if you want to get together, I tend to hit parks there, beaches are good as well, depending on your location and time of day will vary the time in transit. Honeymoon isle in Dunedin also permits detecting on the beach only, above low and below dune line. If you have patience majority of the parks are well stocked with trash to treasure, good place to learn the machine. Best place to realistically start is your own yard.

Thanks!! I live in Land O Lakes, so I may start at one of the lakes. They are close. I can hit the beaches in due time! HubCap76, "I will be in Tampa majority of the week if you want to get together", I would, but I even work this weekend. Stinks. I can't wait to post my first find (not trash, that is).
