Anyone identify this ring? Is it old?

Found this today near fort mose in Florida. It fell in two when I barely touched it to clean it off. Can anyone identify what it is? Is it a toy? It is not fitted but was apart at the base like a ring from a candy machine would be. It was in an in used area with little to no trash. Found some old barbed wire nearby.

It looks like a skull face

It looks to have rust in it so probably fake,mind you I don't have it in hand so would be best to test the metal.
