I found this a couple of days ago in the yard of a neighboring home (built about 1910). It was at the base of a pecan tree in the back yard about 3" deep. It is the exact size of a Jefferson Nickle in thickness and diameter but appears to be bronze. It has an ornate dot pattern around the face of the disc, two small holes drilled top & bottom, and K82 stamped in the center. The back of the disc is blank. It feels very much like a coin but has the look of a button, token, or tag. Thanks for looking and any ideas you may have are appreciated.

Is it upside down? The "8" looks larger at the top than the bottom when it is usually the other way around.

If you turn it and do a rubbing, what does it look like? It may be a stamp of some sort.

either a telegraph or telephone pole marker -- coded by letter and date --- lets the telegraph / telephone folks know how old a pole is --- they used to replace them after every so many years in "service"-- by looking at it they would know if the pole was a new or old pole (say it was damaged and recently replaced last year -- you would not need to replace it then -- but if it was old and thus needing replacement when doing a replacement run on the old poles you would change it out ---(most likely pulled off a pole and reused due to the fact it was "copper based" ) or a numbered marker to keep track of the trees yeild -- folks often put copper coins (cents) to keep bugs away from the tree roots (copper is deadly to many bugs) and to help the trees produce nuts --- Ivan
