Found both of these today. Both were found in loose river sand , along side a local river.

The small one was found on the surface about 35 feet away from the larger one. The larger one was about 1 ft deep and signaled as a "QTR" on my Fisher F2.

You'll notice a layer of sandstone imbedded in the larger one. Behind the sandstone appears to be iron or more appropriately iron oxide.

The material has a color very similar to lead , but the weight does not seem correct. Sorry , but I do not have a decent means to provide a weight.

Also forgot to mention that neither of the objects will attract a magnet.

UPDATE: Added image with outline of embedded sandstone. When viewing this in person , you can really see a defined layer of sandstone.

Thanks for looking.

Put a few scratches in it with the pocket knife , and the color was silver. Strange thing is that it didn't "peel" off like I expected. It took hard scraping to get to the silver , and it din't do the tip of my pocket knife any favors !:laughing7:

Turns out this is a hunk of a sand dredge that burned to infinity back in the 70's . From an eyewitness that saw it happen. As soon as I showed this guy what I had found , and told him the general area , he told me the exact place I found it. Then he proceeed to describe the event. The dredge was pulled up onto the bank exactly where I found this item. So apparently I have an amalgum of steel and aluminum. My guy told me that the fuel tank was at the end where the dredge was banked ,and was apparently melting everything. But the fact that it was a sand dredge completely explains the sand and iron oxide embedded so closely together along with the metallic object itself. ! Interesting answer , just not as interesting as I would have hoped.
