Anyone get a ticket or fine for detecting?

It wasn't me, but the Park Police told me and my hunting buddy Don about it. We had two Park Police pull up to us while we were detecting along an old sidewalk in a park. They checked our permits, then hung around and talked for a bit. They said they recently came across a guy detecting one of the off limits parks. They approached him and told him he could not detect there. They said he kind of laughed and continued detecting. They went through this several more times, then just asked him for ID and began writing the ticket out. I don't know what the judge fined the guy, but it could have been anywhere between $50 and $500. The guy just did not take them seriously until the ticket was in his hand. These are the kind of folks that bring bad attention to all of us.

I know a guy in MI here that went to TN for a 3 day mini vacation once and on his last day there,? he was detecting in a "Battle field zone" where "supposedly" there were signs posted around the area saying "No Metal Detectors allowed within 2 miles" but, he didn't notice any of the signs, and a TN state trooper pulled up and took all of his finds, his detector and, his digger from him, and gave him a ticket that he had to drive back to TN from MI here to appear in court for AND he got a $500 fine.

I never seen a guy so mad and depressed at the same time.

No detecting within 2 miles....now that blows.
So if you own land within 2 miles of a battle site and you own a metal detector you can't hunt your own property that you bought and paid for.
Thats the state telling you if they can't have it you better not be caught looking for it.
Ownership should always stop at the property line no matter who you are.

Red,

I think the area he was hunting in was/is state/fed owned land. I've been thru TN in areas where there are signs posted (No metal detectors allowed in a 2 mile radius) in the National forest areas up there. This guy I'm talking about is not the sharpest tool in the shed (if you know what I mean). He just one day decided to go up there for a 3 day get away (never having been there before) and didn't do any research, wasn't paying attention to where he was, and happened to be detecting on state/fed land when the state trooper pulled up!

Dang! You ever get the feeling you're watching a New York neon billboard? In the S.F. bay area where i'm from you have to get a permit to hunt the parks. HH

ROFL Yea FREE I have to agree it is cool but I'm like waiting for the message sometimes. LOL

I've had troops walk up on me in parks...like ta scare the crap out of me!

Most smile and joke around...chat a little and leave. They have to follow up on a report of a "suspicious looking character in the park."

Once I had two police sergeants hassle me. They came up with big frowns on their faces (I knew this wasn't going to be fun) "Do you have permission to dig these holes!?" Yeah, says I. "Who gave you permission?!" says they (somehow I knew that question was going to come up).

The park caretaker, says I (which was true). They took my name and drivers license number, frowned some more and slowly walked off. I stayed for about 15 more minutes while they sat in their blue goose talking on their radio and glaring at me. Finally I folded up and left. I didn't wave bye bye as I recall.

No. But I got yelled at a few times.

This is kinda related. I was detecting in a park around a building built on a hill. I was hunting under the building and had the rangers called cause someone reported 'a guy living under the building' they laughed when i explained
