Re: Anyone familiar with the American Legion?

Someone may be able to ID it without the back pic but, I have no clue without one other than a guess... :dontknow: fob 1930-40's

The American Legion was founded in 1919 by veterans returning from Europe after World War I, and was later chartered under Title 36 of the United States Code. The organization is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and also has offices in Washington D.C. The group has nearly 3 million members in over 14,000 Posts worldwide.[2]

Re: Anyone familiar with the American Legion?

This is the "drop" from an American Legion, Dept. of Illinois convention medal/badge, and was originally suspended from a red, white & blue ribbon. It is listed as follows in the 1976 TAMS publication American Legion Medals by Ore H. Vacketta:

IL10•28
Waukegan, Illinois
September 10-11, 1928
Commander: A. M. Carter, Marion, Illinois
Obv.: emblem on mess kit
Rev.: blank

It was manufactured by the Green Duck Co. of Chicago.

PBK, great job, as usual.

Here's some more on the manufacturer:

THE GREEN DUCK METAL STAMPING CO. WAS LOCATED AT 1520 WEST MONTANA,CHICIGO ILLINOIS.I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS IN BUSINESS FROM 1906 UNTIL THE 1960`S OR EARLY 70`S.THEY MADE ELECTION PINS ALSO SPOONS FOR THE CENTURY OF PROGRESS, PROBABLY OTHER ITEMS ALSO,BUT THEY WERE A METAL STAMPING COMPANY.

The company was also involved in the manufacture of some the early Illinois vehicle tags and license plates.

GREEN DUCK RE-LOCATED FROM CHICAGO TO HERNANDO, MISSISSIPPI IN 1962 AND FINALLY CLOSED IN 2004. THEY MADE ELECTION BUTTONS, THE METAL CRICKETS (USED AT D-DAY FOR SIGNALING AND ALSO USED FOR DOLPHIN TRAINING AT SEA WORLD), & MARDI GRAS DUBLOONS. IN 1983, THEY BEGAN MAKING SLOT TOKENS FOR US CASINOS. IN 1996, GREEN DUCK WAS SOLD TO A BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND COMPANY AND SLOWLY WENT DOWN HILL.
