I found this a while back on a village site that dates from archaic all the way to contact.
I'm stumped. ( fiber/sand temper)

Thanks.. that's a first for me here.

Wow.. I just posted this 5 minutes ago And it's already on Google.

posts hit google so fast because this site is so big, sometimes that's scary! keep in mind you are on a pedistle when you post here! ;) (jeeze, make sure you know how to spell..lol!!!)

Haha. Like wild fire I say!

the spiders that google has crawling the internet are pretty quick, high tech....just sayin

Haha, Crap I never spell right. Constantly miss-spelling stuff makes me wonder why didn't I spell check that..

Well of all the pottery from the site which was alot that's the only triangular free standing flat bottomed five sided piece of the bunch.
I'll just call it that.
I don't think pottery would just plop into that shape.
I don't see tool marks but it appears pressed.

Gator, you have the piece in hand, so you know more than I do. It looks like part of a hand made brick to me. The shape, I'm clueless. Are you sure it's native made?

That is not really cone shaped. And I have never seen small pottery artifacts with straight lines. Nice save.

I tend to agree with several of the others. It looks to be either part of a brick or some modern made, fired clay pieces.

The best way to tell is look at the tempering material. Compare with other pieces of pottery from the site. I would suspect that the tempering material would be quite different from that piece and the other pottery.

Hippy

Just staring at that little pyramid/cone thingy and wondering what in the world it really looked like. Kinda looks like a piece of a toy block set, but that doesn't make sense at all. Has there ever been a clay gaming piece- like a die (one of a pair of dice)--anything shaped like that?-- is anything scored on any of the facets? Anywhere anything could have been attached? Reminds me of a lead sinker shape too... Easier to mold than carve??? That piece is definately perplexing. BTW, please don't leave the site. I've learned too much from you. Yak

a most bizarre form for a geofact (unless one is dealing with crystals of some sort)

I had this posted not so long ago.

(by shape definition at least) a round based pyramid. as opposed to the one posted, which would be a square based pyramid.

It sure could have used as a tool for some purpose.
