It's designed to operate in regular smoothe bore shotguns. The idea is that the fins on the slug will impart a spin and stabilize the slug in flight for better accuracy. Good idea? Yes, but I have read reports that it doesn't work any better than a slick sided slug. That's why the newer slug guns will have rifling cut into the barrel, to impart spin. Monty
