Yesterday at the flea market I picked up a pair of matching bangle bracelets, the larger of which appears to be marked "9CT". I can't get a great pic of the bracelets or the mark right now but they're very plain looking twist bangles, beautiful shiny finish, with a nice weight and no seams or irregularities (so fairly well made). They're totally non-magnetic, and test just like any piece of 10k jewelry would, but under the 18k acid I noticed slight milky blue streaking like you get with silver. I filed into one bracelet to test again by applying acids directly to the piece; no reaction 10k, very slight fuming w/14k, and almost no reaction from the 18k except for more streaky white/blue. According to the internet there is such a thing as 9k white gold alloyed with just silver, so 37.5% gold and 62.5% silver. Have any of you heard of or come across such a thing before? I plan to take them to be electronically tested tomorrow and I'm hoping they're legit so I can scrap them, total weight is 16 grams so even at 9k I'd get around $200.

yes.I have ran across some before. If I remember right it was from russia or one of its little countrys they held captive for so long. Hope this helps.

Nickel, which is the most common alloy for white gold will also put off a blue color in acid tests.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll post an update tomorrow and let you know what I find out. Beachkid, I have found one piece of 9k prior to this but it was yellow gold and also as fully hallmarked as I've ever seen anything made out of a precious metal, this just has a partial purity mark and tests a little oddly which is why I'm somewhat sceptical. Also I'm excited to say that there might be more where this came from! Today I went back to the booth I got these bracelets at and found a nice pair of 14k earrings for $3, made some conversation with the sellers and found out that all the jewelry they had out came from a friend of theirs who owns two cash-for-gold stores here in town and is trying to unload an excess of "costume" jewelry that she has.

I asked if she might want to sell it all at once in bulk and they said definitely, got her card and theirs so I'm going to call her tomorrow and see how that goes. Any recommendations on the best way to approach that situation? The jewelry they were selling was clean & well-organized but not bagged individually so I don't know whether or not to expect bins of junk like I have sitting around. I would probably offer a price per pound if that were the case but if it's all separated I don't know if per item pricing makes more sense or what, I do know that if possible I want to buy everything she has rather than cherry-pick since I don't want her to get too interested in what I'm looking for. I'm slightly out of my element here.

White gold and acid test are sorta funny.. My buyer checks all white gold electronically.

Just wanted to add this pic to this post, this is the only mark on either bracelet:

Oh happy day, they test out at 8k electronically, still going to scrap them, should be a nice turnaround on my $5 investment.
