Livin' in a tar-paper shack in the woods of Easter
Detector(s) used
Fisher F70, Whites QXT, Garrett Pro-Pointer, "Mighty" Diggin' Tool
Cause I found em! Got off work early & hit a few parks, found my first ring (cheapy, stone was gone, but it is my very first ring.........EVER!) & my first 50 cent piece, 1976 bi-centenial. Also a dog tag, couple live rounds (kinda disturbing finding them in a public park, but this is Idaho) & also this humidifier. It is made of alluminum or some pot metal, about the size of a quarter, two pieces that snap together with holes in it. It says "immerse humidifier in cold water", Im assuming you put a tablet or something inside. Anybody ever see one before? Ive been detecting about a month now, using a Prizm3 (I hear the snickers & laughing) & have found about 250 coins, all clad. No silver, no wheats. >:( This town is old, maybe 150 years, dont understand where the old coins can be. I have just discovered an old park built in 1913 i think, but havent pulled a single coin out of it in 3 short trips. I think it has been resodded, had a layer of fresh dirt thrown on it recently. I just ordered a Quantum XT Pro so I hope to go there & find the old stuff real deep...........we will see. Only lived here for about 8 months, so more research is in order, I think. Sorry for the bad pic but my camera blows monkey chunks!
Hope ya'all find what yer lookin for & much more! ;D

250 coins in a month, WOW, thats terrific Might AP! Those live rounds will make you stop and consider the big bang theory in a different light :o I'm surely not going to be poking any fun at you about your Prizm3, you're producing some great finds. Let us know how the Quantum works in your area. HH

Keep it up -- before long you will be finding the silver -- I have heard good things about the prisim 3 -- hope your new detector gets you down an extra couple of inches -- keep it up!! ;D

Nice finds and seems you are doing very good. Can't find it if it isn't there, LOL! I have had luck hunting along hedge/bush lines at parks. HH, Mike

By your discription of your area it sounds like your in for some great finds once the deeper machine arrives.

But the secret to finding the really old stuff in small towns or the old parts of cities is to hunt very slowly and dig all those faint but solid/tight iffy signals. I don't how many great coins I've dug that first registered as "iron" on the detector meter. Whenever I hear that certain mellow sound in my headphones I just smile and dig carefully.

For some reason finding bullets and casings in public parks is quite common just about anywhere in the USA. Maybe it's because a lot of parks were once in rural areas? Some of the parks I have hunted I know are frequented by gang bangers too. Luckily none of them are out early mornings. >:( I couldn't even guess how many keys or sets of keys I have found. Many of them are so old and rusty I know they are no longer useful so I ditch them. Newer ones I either turn in (schools) or put them somewhere in plain sight (parks). One lady I talked to was hunting a set of Volvo keys she lost on a jogging trail. Said it cost over $400.00 to replace them! I can't imagine keys costing that much? Anyway, nice finds, you're definately on the right track. Monty

I lost my set of keys last week. Did your set have Vette and Mercedes keys on it? :'( ;D
Nice finds.....Keep up the good work!

Happy Hunting,
Moon

I think they are keys to a Yugo & one maybe fits an 1981 chevy chevette, hatchback I beleive. Sorry Moonshadow, I'll hit the parks on the other side of the tracks & keep my eyes open for your Vette keys. ;) Only problem is when I hunt in the nice part of town they always ask me to leave..................they say the property value drops dramaticaly as soon as I cross those tracks, but I'll do my best!

Hey, AP. You're doing great. 250 coins in a month is awesome.

I started with a prizm, too. I found some great old coins with it.....Large cent, mercs, and wheaties. It's not the machine, probably just that you haven't swung it over any silver yet! ;) The 1800's coins that I have dug have never been over 6" deep and a prism would have no trouble finding them.

Good luck!

Nice Finds ....and keep swinmging ...you will hit that silver.

And Monty ...cripes my first car didnt cost 400.00 bucks...come to think of it...neither did the second one

That humidifier thing probably came from some sort of cigar box. I think I have seen something like that before. There was probably a sponge inside it, all you were supposed to do was soak it in distilled water and place it in your cigar box. It kept the cigars nice and fresh.....too much moisture and you will get mold.

Dan.
