Anybody like a challenge?

Found 1820's campsite no modern trash, I thought it was a hunk of iron, as an afterthought I threw it in to my acv bath with a bunch of other scrap pieces on the off chance they might have hidden information, when I pulled it out this morning I saw the gold color showing so I ran a wire wheel over it and this is what I got... I'm guessing brass but it really looks like gold other than that I have no idea

Probably brass, but, try the acid test on it. Even 10K acid will dissolve brass pretty quickly

To determine if it is brass, do the sniff test. Rub an old brass house key between your thumb and forefinger, then smell of your fingers. Brass has a very distinct smell. Wash your hands thoroughly and do the same thing with your find. Do you fingers smell the same? If so, it's brass.

grandpa seems to think its the strike plate on a flintlock pistol which I have found other parts but they are iron so a brass strike plate would be odd ive found flat buttons could it be uniform related? to me it looks like it was an oval with a diamond hold punched in the middle... the site could be indian too maybe some sort of adornment?

I can see it, maybe but I hesitate because everything else from the site aside from flat buttons has been iron, I find most things with no discrimination so a brass loop seems out of place but not a bad guess and maybe I will find more from the site and it will seem more likley
