I do not remember where I found this but always wondered what it was. I think it is some kind of torch. If so what was it used for? and how did it work? There are two thin brass tubes the one with the tip is 4" long the other one is 4 7/8 " both about 7/8 dia. The one with tip is empty, solid bottom. The tip threads out and attached to the bottom is a wick. the top of the curved tip is threaded for another attachment that i do not have. I have put lighter fluid in it before and it does throw a small flame. The other tube has a thin cap threaded over the bottom and a winged plug threaded into the top, same size hole and threads as tip on other tube but it is packed full with a big round braided wick. both pieces fit together with metal clip. No markings. I just found this site awhile back so hello to everyone, I have not used a metal detector since I was a kid but this site and your stories have made me get my old whites coinmaster out of the closet. just have to order some battery packs and Im ready for spring.

Re: anybody know what this is?

ah very good thank you. I can see the little hole in the clip for chain and cap. I still wonder how it worked though what second tube was for . There is no way to put the tip on it. I will mark it solved if I figure out how to do that.

I dont know how to use it but remember seeing it on eBay. Could one tube screw onto the other or is it a solid bottom?

Re: anybody know what this is?

The tube with tip is solid bottom no way to hook them together. no way to change tip to other tube because it has a big wick filling it up.That second tube i cannot figure out. I know i would hate to try to solder with the flame that came from running lighter fluid. Maybe i will try alcohol.

From what I can make out one cylinder must have pressure. Take a look at this video before you blow yourself up.

Re: anybody know what this is?

Thanks pbk, that link explains it all. I had thought of something along those lines but all I came up with was holding second tube under bottom of other tube but knew that was not right. Never thought of flame right by tip. Have not got it to throw real good flame yet but it does work. Cool little torch. I still have not found how to make post solved but here is pic to prove it.
