I was hoping to get out to someplace new this weekend. I've been dying to go to Goio Park, but it's a little bit of a drive so that's kept me away all this time. I should be able to hunt from dusk to about 3pm so let me know if anyone wants to get together for a hunt on the south side ;-) Goio, I'm sure you haven't packed away your detector just yet! Maybe we can do a small group hunt out there?

I'd like to get out Sunday, but that's depending on what the weather is. If I make it out I'll probably hit the camp for a few hours.

Just took Fiend on a cladventure, so I'm on bedrest through the weekend. The back is still torn up too bad for kneeling and digging.

Hey RM, how do you think Goio would do at Silver Springs? Not sure what hunting is available there but it's got history and the right name.

How's you guys do? Hit any woods??

Cladventure... heh heh. Well silver springs is really not that old of a place. It doesn't even look like a spring on the 1939 flyovers, even though it is... but I see no evidence of parking lots or roads really leading into it very well. It could be alright, but Goio Park sounds better to me ;-)

So everyone is taking it easy this weekend then huh? I might have to sneak into a "silver mine" nearby and hope I don't get busted. Gotta take one last stab at pulling silver this year. Maybe I could break 10 for the year if I'm really lucky. I think I'm only up to 7 and that's counting 2 rings.

Get an early start next season and maybe, just maybe, you can compete with Goio. He's been pulling some nice old stuff out of his parks, so I don't see why you couldn't. Just make sure you go with someone, you don't really want to be alone there if you're not all that familiar with the area.

Good luck!

Whats up all?
I just got back after a 2 hour hunt on a new site (1880's maybe). Would have gone earlier
if I would've known it wasn't goin to rain. I found a1942 walkn lib. half,1918 dog lisense,
a brass stirrup, and a bunch of junk!
If the weather holds out I plan to hunt it again this weekend.

Hey Brett, they didn't build a lot of parking lots for the people that went there in the period you'd like to find the coins from at Silver Springs. C'mon man, it's practically in your backyard!

Hey Wyat, at the north end of the big house across from the south end of 9th or 10th St. is where they used to have a carnival way back in the day. That according to my Uncle, who died last year. Ever hit the parkways down around there? My Aunt still lives at the corner of Park and 14th across from Mineral Springs. About 6 or 7 years ago I was working the riverfront when they were rehabbing it, got some nice glass there and a couple nice old coins.

Lowbatts! Hows it goin?! Thats SOOOO strange! 6 or 7 Years ago I remodeled a house
on the corner Parkway &Court St. I was subcontracted in for Antinini's construction and I found
the original blueprints for the house in a wall. There were also blueprints for spring lake. I gave the
prints to the owner, it seem like they had just purchased the home and were from the east coast,
(not sure). Pekin still holds that carnival every year behind a school on Derby & 10th st. and it
is called Derby Days and brings quite the croud. I've never detected there but I have at Mineral
Springs (found alot of silver). They have festival there as well (Marigold Festival).

Well Im going out Sat and Sunday. Sat I'm staying close to home (O'Hare area) but Sun I could go to the South Side. :icon_pirat:

Yeah I guess the real reason I would be turned off to Silver Springs this weekend, is that I haven't really researched it - don't have permission or know if I need it - and just don't wanna try something iffy for a last semi-warm hunt. I will get out there sometime, maybe during the middle of winter when they open up the big tubing hill... there's bound to be some treasure falling out of coat pockets and pant pockets when they crash at the bottom. I'm sure there's also a lot of older coins there, but I'm sure that place never received traffic like a major city park.

Hey Fiend, glad to hear it. Maybe we can meet up over there and try not to get bottles chucked at us. I'll send you a PM.

Hey Wyat,
Got some of my finest seated libs out of Mineral Springs. Just haven't spent the time there to hit it hard. We have a family reunion there in July at the pavillion, missed this year, hope to be there next year. Ever hit the Peoria parks? I've heard from some PATH folks that they get awesome returns there also.

Lowbatts,
Never made it over the river yet, I'm always so busy hunting old homes and
farms. When you get back over this way let me know, we can hit the park or
some of the places I go. I just landed 2 more and they were all est. between
1790's to 1880's. their all vacant and away from the traffic.
