Found this on a Confederate retreat path and the Union troops followed ….. it weighs 4.29 grams …. My thoughts are 1) a charm off a modern bracelet 2) a Masonic coin 3) a medallion off of something 4)a wax stamp………. thumbnail_IMG_0358.jpgthumbnail_IMG_0359.jpgthumbnail_IMG_0360.jpg Thanks for looking ...

Definitely hieroglyphic symbols, so the Masonic idea might be a good one.

I couldn't even start to spell the word you used so I believe ya.:laughing7:

Ha interesting, was this dug up , or lying on top of the ground? It looks kind of like a seal/ pendant used in burials.

The symbols appear to be what's called Hieratic Hieroglyphics, a form of cursive Heiroglyphic writing where they abbreviated some of the symbols and was used in sacred/religious type writing/inscriptions. I recognize a few, it reads from right to left. It ends in "Lord" or "everything" so it may be a prayer. Two characters, end of second line down (left side) looks like it says " beloved ruler or king". It starts out either saying "speak more, or of" or "eternal", the characters are too small to really decipher well. Some characters I don't recognize at all. I would forward a picture to a university professor that can read that sort of thing (if there are any) if you think it's a really old piece, it doesn't seem like a typical junk trinket as they tended to use animal/bird hieroglyphs and not cursive on a souvenir type thing.

Very interesting and cool find!!

I'm no help in what it is though...The only thing I knew was that it was some kind of Hieroglyphic's and even had to look at the post above to spell that, but that's already been determined.:laughing7:

My vote is that this is a fantasy piece, possibly a charm from a 1920s bracelet. :icon_scratch:
The hieroglyphics look to be random in nature and almost comedic looking.
The discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb in 1922 sparked the creation of a large amount of 'Egyptian inspired' jewelry from that period.
