I am trying to track down who these people were and/or if they are still alive.

It reads; Mrs. Julius Schmid
and
Mr. Harry Joseph King
announce their marriage
(in script) Sat. Oct. 19, 1968 Washington D.C.

Anybody?

Mark1985 dug this ID ring the other day it is on Banner finds (1st picture) click on that and find the two or three members who were able too pull up pictures of the civil war soldier that was on the ring. I think they will be able to help you if know one here can find it.

What I find strange about their wedding invitation is her name; Mrs. Julius Schmid 'Mrs.' and her x-husband's name instead of Miss Jane Doe or Jane Doe.

I know this is probably not her husband, but found this somewhat amusing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Schmid

I'm not a member of ancestry. com anymore, but I know there are several people who are. Hut is right. I saw several people on the ring banner who were using ancestry.com

Neat find :)

I was thinking the same thing that Breezie noticed about the name and the funny history on what Julius Schmid invented! My gut tells me two seniors marrying with the Mrs. honoring her deceased husband. A Julius Schmid also was a major artist in Europe during the 1800's through turn of the century. Most likely a long shot but Julius is kind of a not so common name. Found a Julius King DDS 202-726-3033 in Washington DC.
Good Luck

Here is another interesting link about Julius Schmidt, and according to the info, he married
a lady and then the emigrated to NYC in the late 1800's.

Thanks for the replies so far. The first thing I noticed was the married name of the bride to be. I took that the same as ClovisOak, her being a widow and the marrying couple maybe being older in age. However, Julius Schmid the condom maker, was 90 when he died in 1955. Even if she was 20 years younger than him, she would have been 83 years old in 1968. Stranger things have happened I guess but i'm doubting it's the same person. Juius Schmid the artist was even older. I really need someone with access to Ancestry.com or the like for this one I believe.

The engraving is on a Tiffany & Co. sterling box.

Dig, I agree with you; I never thought the condom maker was her husband, but found it somewhat amusing the names were the same. :) I didn't realize it was by Tiffany; it's a VERY HIGH DOLLAR box. It might be a long shot, but Tiffany might have a record of who bought it since it was engraved. Did you dig this or find it in a shop?

I don't know if this website will be helpful or not, but here goes:

Since I use to be a member of Ancestry. com, I was able to access my account. It allowed me to search, but would not allow me to do an advanced search. I searched under MARRIAGES, and used his full name Harry Joseph King, and the exact date. I put in Julius Schmid as one of the 'key words.' There is not a marriage license listed for Harry Joseph or Harry J. King for October 19, 1968. I'm wondering if Tiffany made up the names/date/etc. to use as a display?

Julius Schmid had two sons that took over the business when he died - I show he died in June 6, 1939 (maybe I need to correct Wikipedia :))

One son was Julius Jr. and he died in 1960. I have found a reference that he had no children and his widow's name was Hazel. She was born about 1902. So she is a possibility to be your Mrs. Julius Schmid but I haven't been able to make the firm connection so it might be someone else ....

Good job Bramble! Were you able to find a marriage certificate for Harry Joseph King on that date in DC?

Hi Breezie :) No - but the index I've found for DC only goes up to around 1950 - I think (I checked last night).

I have found lots of travel records for Julius and Hazel. And one does list her as "Hazel Marie Schmid" but that's about all I have.

It's her! I found a Family Tree reference using her actual birthdate from the travel records (June 28, 1900)- don't know if the link will work for non-members.

Thank you Bramblefind. Your a gentleman and a scholar. I appreciate the help. I had a feeling that they had both already passed. I was wondering if they had any children. It appears not. Any idea what the (Gonsalves) name is about? Link doesn't work unless your a member.

Breezie, This box was purchased at a local thrift store years ago by my brother in law. It's been in a box for 15 years or so, packed away in a storage unit. He gave it to me to see what I can come up with in terms of selling it for him. I saw the engraving and was curious as to who it originally belonged to and where they are now.

DCMatt- Thanks. Now I know what the DC stands for. lol. I was raised in PG county and Fairfax county myself. Good times!

Happy to help :) It was lucky there was the tree posted with so much info. Neither Harry or Hazel have any children listed. Here is some of the details about Harry w/ an entry about the name change too.

And I'm female btw... just didn't want to leave the "gentleman" title hanging out there :laughing7: Thank you though!

Washington D.C., late October, ehh... pretty good for DC standards, only off by a couple months or so. Yes they do look like a sweet ole couple. She was almost 12 years his senior too.
