I'm starting to dig a lot more low tones with my E-Trac in hopes of finding a gold ring in the turf somewhere (school yards, parks, campgrounds), but haven't had any luck yet. I have significantly increased my pull tab count for the year though!

I'd love to hear whether anyone else is digging lower tones and lower VDI numbers with their E-Trac (or Explorer) and finding gold every now and again.

Are there certain numbers, or ranges of numbers that I should always dig or always ignore?

I.ve got a couple of gold rings with the E Trac. If I recall, gold hits in several spots on the E Trac. Check out Andie's book. It gives the FE CO numbers for a lot of good targets. You will be able to see where the gold rings come in. If you don't have Andie's book, there might be a few older posts here that give the co values for the E Trac. I know I've seen the posts somewhere, think it was here.

I've found 7 gold rings so far with the E-trac.

The numbers depend on how big, how deep and how much gold is in them.

I have found that the gold rings hit pretty hard if they are shallow and if deep the readings will be the same but if you have your sound set up right, you will know it is deep.

The largest ring I found was about 6 inches down and it read 12-45. The smaller rings read anywhere from 9-23 to 12-38. The deepest gold ring I have found was down over a foot. The one ring I found was reading 12-38 and it was at a site I had detected 4 times before. I did not want to dig it before because I thought it was a zinc penny. After hitting the same target for the fifth time in as many times I hit that site, I finally decided to dig it and out came that gold ring. Glad I did finally dig it.

A gold bracelet I found at low tide on the beach down in Florida was at 22 inches down and read 11-44. It was so deep that the signal was pretty lame. But it was a signal and I knew it was deep.

You want gold....then dig it all. Gold can read pretty wide and have different sounds on the E=trac. There is no set rule for gold and gold rings other than dig it all.

Gold rings come in anywhere below cond 38 but your ferrous number will vary with depth, deeper rings can go down to ferrous 20! Shallow rings are usually on the 12 ferrous line. happy hunting seeya Neilo

I haven't found any gold rings yet, but i did manage a big 18k cross at about 7 inches which rang up 12-06 just like foil.
