Any Way to Date These Henry .22 Rimfire Cartridge Cases?

Dug three .22 rimfire cartridge cases in the woods today. They have the letter "H" on them, which means it's either a Henry or a Winchester case. They are exactly one inch long. Didn't have much luck online trying to pin down a date for these cases. Any help would be appreciated.

Those are Hornaby cases not henry.

Hornady is the manufacturer. They're not .22's. They look more like 17 HMR

They have to be older than that, since hunting has been prohibited at this spot for at least 40 years.

That is definitely a Hornady head stamp. Like the others have said it is probably a 17HMR. I don't know of a necked down 22cal. But, there are a lot of things I don't know.

Shooting in city limits has been illegal everywhere for a long time, but I still find 9mm casings pretty much everywhere.... Just because something is prohibited doesn't mean people will stop.

Hornady has been in business since 1949 making bullets for reloaders, but they didn't start making ammunition until 1964. Hornady's 17HMR has been in production since 2002, so they can't possibly be any older than that but they can be older than the first date I came up with... I forgot that the Hornady round and the Winchester round are a bit different. I just never have owned or even fired or had any use for a 17 cal rifle....

Introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1969, discontinued in 1974.
Accurate measurements of the case with digital calipers is needed to tell for sure.

Henry never made a .22 until the company name was recently resurrected.... Original Henry rifles were only made for around 6 years and to the best of my knowledge all in .44 Henry rimfire. The old "H" head stamp on that 22 short is actually a Winchester headstamp and even though it stands for Henry, has nothing to do with the original guns other than Winchester owning the name and paying homage to Benjamin Tyler Henry...

Tim’s is a rimfire round, they could be kids out plinkin’ that’s a pretty quiet round.

Along with metal detecting, I also hunt and reload some. I agree that the head stamp appears to be Hornady.
