I was in the local detector shop today shopping, when a guy came in and picked one up.The guy and the shop owner were air testing it on all different types of targets.I was lucky to be in there at the right time, the machine is impressive to me.I ordered one and paid the man,it will be here wednsday.

I bought one last Fri. Had to have it after bench testing in the shop. Very impressive even though I just started in May with a Classic5ID. Three or four trips a week will get you good real quick. Two trips with the new Prizm and I am feeling really good right now. Got a fresh drained lake and campground to hit this weekend and can't wait!

I got my 6t this morning about 9am but I didnt get home to try it until just before dark. I plan to spend the day with it tomorrow,I dug a plug this evening in the dark and lost the signal, but I found the dirt clod with the perfect round impression.Maybe the coin is stuck on the shovel I think I will go look. First impression is that this machine is very erratic the vdi numbers go from full negative to full positive in my trashy yard, and with the 7 tones that I have not disc out it sounds like a carnival.I think this machine is alot more powerful than what I have been using and it can see that trash better,I just have to learn the machine.I have a 96 explorer and when you cut the ignition switch off to get out of the car it cuts the prism 6t on for some reason,it did this 4 seperate times through out the day! I threw down a bullet that I had and it repeated good but the vdi numbers moved around from the 30's to the 70's I dont know, but I will find it out tomorrow and will let you know.

Ok guys I used the 6t this weekend and I am not happy with it.The first site I took it to is an old homesite late 1800's I assume.Lots of iron, every other rock in the foundation stones is a hot rock, and there are veins of some type of stone/ore in several places around the house.I have been plauged by this ore before so saturday I put a magnet to it and it is magnetic in certain places. The 6t overloads on hot rocks,It hits hard on the ore before you dig it then the smaller pieces disc out and the larger pieces overload it.I think it has 8 or 9 tones and I disc out the first two which are big iron and nails,so that leaves 6 or 7 tones. The thing sounds like a carnival when you swing it,it hits one sided signals non stop, non repetable high tones all day.Vdi numbers are constantly bouncing from -95 to +95,iron the size of a can top will overload it. It took me all day to get used to the constant noise and no good targets. When it repeats the signal there is something in the ground for sure the pinpoint works good, the depth is accurate on coin sizes.I think the auto tracking feature works against you in high trash,I got better stability by locking it in an area that was clean and then going to the search area.Next day I took it to the city,6t doesnt like the city either. The machine never shut up all day I refuse to lower the sensitivity to less than half and everywhere I tried it ,it was about the same. it would just sit and make tones and count off random vdi numbers while it laid on the ground when I was digging. One up side to the city I found a 1918 mercury dime at about 8 inches, and a wheat cent, and a handful of zinc pennies. But it was the same business non repeatable high tones all day.So to summarize,I bought a 600 dollar detector with vdi,lcd display, multi tones, led bargraph, bells, whistles, and whatever else and I am using it like a 200 dollar tesoro that has a speaker and not much else.Iron and minerals, poor ground conditions beat the wheels off of this 6t. I'm over it,I am going to use it because I bought it but starting tonight I am going to do some hardcore research for my next purchase.I would like your opinions on the all time greatest detectors, not just what is in stores now,I mean the best of all time. What do you use and wouldn't sell for anything?

"What do you use and wouldn't sell for anything?"

Don't get me wrong, I love Whites's and have used and owned several of them. BUTTTTTTTT..... the one machine I would never part with and consistently works for me is the Fisher CZ5 Quicksilver. Easy, Simple, Accurate, and decent depth.

Thanks, Jeffro

By the way, I've had good luck in bad ground by turning my sens WAYYYYY down. Like 1 or 2 even. :)

Maybe you already tried that, I dunno, you didn't say. But its worth a try if you haven't already.

I'd try it at a sight that is "hunted out" and work with it. I would turn down the sensitivity until you get used to it. Also city sites are not the best places to start with a new machine, too much trash.

I wouldn't give up my Minelab for anything. OK yes I would I would give it up for an SE PRO.
I had planned to get an SE Pro in the begining,I probably should have stuck with that. Its alright though, learning experience.

Not so fast... I did have simular results I will call them, not so much a problem. One thing for sure, It dosn't miss much of anything even up to 8 or 10 inches steady. I turned down the sens. and blocked the first 2 like Deese and it helped greatly. I found that in a trashy area it will drive you wild trying to keep up with it. I will not use tones in trash and will block out all but what I really want to find or move somewhere else. It is VERY sensitive. At the drained lake I found several (dime ) readings that were very small whatevers the size of a pinhead at 6-7 inches! ?? Did find the regular clad and 2 wheaties. We were a few days late to someone else but had a good time with mike k in virginia. I will say again.... A big learning curve from the Classic 5 ID which I will miss but will move on to deeper and better finds.

The 6t like all other Prizm models needs a smaller coil for the trashy areas. I know that there is one coming. I find the VDI numbers on my 6t to be very accurate. Sweep speed, junk, ground mineralization, too much sensitivity, can be SOME of the factors that mess with TID. I think that getting to know a detector is the greatest thing we over look in this hobby.
