The Lincoln is there for size reference, it seems to be made of copper.

Pretty cool recovery.
Sewn on something for sure-couple of thoughts are floating around of what it might be, but not really positive.
Little beads could of hung/dangled from each hole is a thought.

additional info; the holes are 'punched' not drilled. It seems very old.

Well i will say this... and not saying that this IS any of the following... but here goes anyway...

Ok... in the folk art world this piece would be "commonplace"... used for eyes say on a wood carved boar or pig or the likes... have seen it.... and they are very valuable btw.

Also... could be a "patch" for some sort of wood bucket or the likes and was nailed on.

I also can name a few more if they come to mind.

Errr i said "folk art"... but that is not exactly the type i was thinking and am drawing a blank at the correct terminology.
