i found this a few years ago and have it in a little frame at my office
looks like an extremely re-sharpened piece

any thoughts anyone?

Nice drill Larson. Have you typed the point it was made from?
Looks like a Prarrie side notch.. 800-1300 BP.
There was probably several real nice Bone fish hooks made with the help of that piece.

I'm sure they start out sharp. With all the bone awls and perferators he finds seems bone was the choice material for that task. That's a great example of a classic Hafted drill. JMO.

Amen! That's the answer GB. Would not make sense to make your drill dull.

Looks to be flat and not round enough to be a drill. Probably a punch tool for hide working, making clothes would be a guess. Still a nice tool.
 

"tool kit" finds are some of my favorites.
 

It would take a pretty thin sharp.."precise" drill for these guys.
