Just wondering...does end with notches taper down to end.?..maybe one half of handmade hinge..and persons thinking for notches is it would bind in wood better than if a straight piece..

I was thinking of something to bend the teeth on a saw, but you wouldn't need 3 notches for that.

Cool handhade item, looks to be made from an old file, you can still see the grooves. Now that is some old school recycling.

I think Pa Plateau Hiker's suggestion has merit... it could be a home-made tool for re-bending bent teeth on a saw. I notice that the width of the three grooves is not the same, and seems to increase "sequentially" from left to right in your photo. Perhaps that is to correctly fit different thicknesses of sawblades. Note, I'm just doing some logical theorizing, and my deduction could be incorrect.
