Was at Sam's today and when I saw these my first thought was that they would be great for storing a cache. They are designed for pet food, so I don't know how water tight they are. I was thinking that if you dug the right sized hole and lined it with those 12"x12" flat concrete paving squares, then dropped this in the center it would be a pretty good cache, at least for a year or two. The paving stone lining would protect the plastic container from caving in. The screw-on lid could be between 3" and 6" below the surface (or even more), and another paving square could be placed on top for added protection. You could probably even add a gasket to the lid and use a roll of Teflon plumber's tape on the threads to seal it better. And because of the angled opening, you could bury it so that the opening remains at 45 degrees, or angle the vault so that the opening is pointing straight up. Plus, as the description states, they are stackable for those clutch situations:
