So I'm in the hardwoods of central-PA and timber and coal mining were major industries back in the day. I've been talking with some old timers about places where settlers setup sawmill villages on rivers to float the logs downstream once they were cut. Ive tried to find one of these places but nothing remains there since the buildings weren't constructed with foundations.

Just curious if anyone has had any luck detecting these known but unrecognizable locations.

I dug a 1890's sawmill site a couple times, but didn't find much metal. I did uncover an old mine wheel, but left it there as it was too heavy to carry out. A friend of mine hauled home an old circular saw blade from another sawmill.

Back in the day Sawmill workers were as poor as Church Mice so I doubt you find much money. Also as the years passed the area would probably get deeper and deeper in sawdust and increasing the depth for your detector to penetrate.
