Welcome to Tnet from Toronto hnumismatics! :hello:

Definitely an interesting find, looks to be made of stamped brass and would likely have been gold plated based on the design.
I'm not seeing military though, but hopefully someone here will recognize exactly what this is. :icon_scratch:

Possibly a 'Lodge, Masonic or Fraternity' related?
Dave

I see the C to the left of the hole too.

Could be a decor piece for some kind of furniture

That is one cool find. See attached photo for guesses on letters. The second letter could be an "I". That would make it either "CIKES" or "GIKES". Neither make sense to me - so back to the drawing board.

Looks to me to be possibly a hat badge from a CHIEF fire uniform

I agree it used to say CHIEF and is likely a hat device for either a police or fire chief uniform. The style is near identical to police chief hat devices from the 1880s - 1890s

You beat me to it. Yes, "Chief" was the title, now missing from a police or fire cap. Nice!

I think the last letter is a T. You can still make out the bottom portion of the letter. I want to make CADET out it but I can't justify the D in the middle.

This is what I see. (Imagine really) IMG_6063.webp

I'm pretty sure Nesco was correct.

(sorry it's sideways. If you click on it it displays correctly.)

And that’s a great photo DC.
