Any One Know What This Is?

Found this with my New Minelab Equinox. Looks like a military cap badge, but uncertain if it is. Measures about 2 1/2" across X 1 1/2" tall. Gave a nice clear high tone and was about 3" deep. Looks like is was glued to something as opposed to having a pin back. The center lettering is totally gone.

Definitely an interesting find, looks to be made of stamped brass and would likely have been gold plated based on the design.
I'm not seeing military though, but hopefully someone here will recognize exactly what this is.

Possibly a 'Lodge, Masonic or Fraternity' related?

I agree it used to say CHIEF and is likely a hat device for either a police or fire chief uniform. The style is near identical to police chief hat devices from the 1880s - 1890s

You beat me to it. Yes, "Chief" was the title, now missing from a police or fire cap. Nice!

I think the last letter is a T. You can still make out the bottom portion of the letter. I want to make CADET out it but I can't justify the D in the middle.
