Has anyone here ever heard of anyone finding cobs in CA? I'm in the Monterey, CA area. Permanent European settlement arrived here in 1770. Prior to that, occasional explorers stopping along our coast. I've found about 3 dozen Spanish reales, dating back to the 1770s. Other guys here have found reales dating back to the 1740s (but those would be ones verrrryyy circulated).

I have heard of 2 cobs being found after beach storms here. None on land. The 2 cobs I've heard of both had indistinguishable dates. Just enough remaining to know they were cobs.

I know of an unrecorded (possible) spanish wreck site north of Monterey that beaches silver and gold coins dating between 1800 and 1806.

End of conversation.

Gentlemen, I did not state that I found anything, just that certain coins have been found...

Grubby, if you recall from our PM's, we discussed this same site in very broad terms on several occassions.
