hadn't even thought of it being plated for jewelry

Indian Head cents were made of a copper-nickel alloy (1859-1864) and then bronze (1864-1909). At no time were they ever made of silver.

Yours is either plated or dipped in mercury.

Very interesting if mercury dipped I would get rid of it or put it in something safe.

Mercury dipped coins turn black over time.
I also did that when I was a kid.
Rubbed them pennies between my fingers until they shined and tried to pass them off as dimes.

I'm still going with plated

Another possibility is that it is a cent struck on a silver blank intended for a dime. Weighing it would confirm that. Indian cent weighs 3.11 grams a dime 2.50 grams.

Silver plated or a replica for costume jewelry.

I don't go with the silver blank idea.... the dimensions of an Indian head blank and dime blank are so far off as to disallow such a clear strike for the details shown in the photo. Interesting if it were possible though...

We used to grind the edges of pennies down by rubbing them on the sidewalk until they were the size of a dime then put them in coke machines. Worked about half the time.
