I found this metal detecting today in the woods and decided to keep it. It is made by Disston which is a pretty well known company so I figured it would be easy to ID it. After some research I discovered that it looks like the D-100 model (1961-1966) based on the handle shape, the D-100 is the only one with the handle in that shape. The handle is identical except that mine is made of some kind of hollow plastic and the D-100 is made of Aluminum. Any help on it's age and model???

One more thing, this saw cuts great, I tested it on a 3 inch think branch and it cut it clean in half in a mintute, I have a feeling it is still going to be put in use after some more cleaning (I cleaned on side already :)

You have an example of a Disston saw made after the family sold their corporation to HK Porter in 1955. The quality of the saws spiraled into a low state as the company tried to cut costs and the market for handsaws dried up quickly.\

If you are a researcher, you could ask the succeeding companies who owed the name:
Henry Disston and Sons was sold to the H.K. Porter Company of Pittsburgh. Porter's Disston Division was sold in 1978 and became the Henry Disston Division of Sandvik Saw of Sweden. This division was then sold in 1984 to R.A.F. Industries of Philadelphia and became known as Disston Precision Incorporated, maker of specialized flat steel products. Although the company has ceased making Disston handsaws, the Disston brand name still exists in this firm.
