Found at the beach in an area where I was finding some old items. It says Hastings, Oakland, and San Francisco on the front. It's a simple bent clip on the back to mount it....no clasp or pin. Seems to make of thin, stamped copper. Any idea of age and significance of this badge?

I can't be certain from the picture, but would you say the 'Hastings' word is a match for this?:

If so, I can at least tell you what that means and give a possible time-frame, but not what the badge was actually for nor how it connects to 'Frisco.

In the original post, the dotted "I" is above the t's cross, so I would say the signature (logo) is not a match.

Yes, I saw that so 'match' was a poor choice of words rather than the more long-winded "does it have enough stylistic similarities to potentially be the 'same' logo, given that companies often used minor style variations of their name which were different from those they formally registered as trademarks?"

The "G" doesn't curl under either, just goes straight down. Due to the corrosion, I can't even really verify there is an S on the end, but, it looks like there is an apostrophe, so, I just presumed it's there. The spacing would indicate it's there also.

My guess would be an old badge for University of California Hastings, which has locations in San Francisco and Oakland. It is a law school and was founded in 1878. Just a guess, but cool find!
