Any Ideas ???

Hi,

Was wondering if any one had an idea on this ... It is sitting in a old dump in the woods. The pics aren't that great. It is upside down (wedged under the log). Has a lever arm on both sides. The front then flips down, and the sides swing out. Can't see any markings on it (will eventually try to stand it back up). Anyone seen anything like it?

thanks,

jlar

I had seen something that looked like that in the attic of a old house, but it's hard to tell. Could it be a animal catcher/cage? Matt

It is in with a bunch of farm type equipment ... old tractor wheels, hay tools, etc ... and a bunch of old machine pulleys (the type that you would run a large belt over. I imagine it very heavy .. it looks to be all cast iron. Haven't had a chance to go back yet and do anything with it. Couldn't move it before ... the log in the pic has got it pinned down.

I would expect it to be some sort of machine equipment ... just because it looks like it sat on cast iron legs (the levers make me think of something that you would work hot metal in, although I am sure that is not it)

thanks for looking ...

are you shure it's not a Hunters TREE STAND ?

from that angle that is what it looks like.

Hard to tell from the photo but it appears to be some type of stand or simple machine like a corn sheller?

I am sure it is not a tree stand ... I would pity the poor hunter that had to set that one up :) This pics are pretty lame. Here is a closeup of the first pic (hard to get within the 128kb limit and I haven't got my website running yet). Maybe this closeup will help ... note the lever (there is another one on the other side of the door, and the pivot point where the front door would swing down. The side view pic (I will send a closeup of that one too shows the pivot for swinging the side doors outward ....

Thanks for the new picture . I'm starting to think it might be part of an old kiln for fireing pottery . There could of been some asbestes plates that enclosed it to make a firebox .

I love these guessing games!
I'd say it was a press of some kind, perhaps to press another kind of metal or material. It appears to be very heavy good-quality alloy, heat resistant, with a handle for right-handed use, and the legs are maybe made of less quality metal. The number on the handle is a part or patent number, perhaps.
There's my 2 cents!

I can't believe that no-one knew what this was, I knew what it was the first second I saw it.

That is a photon decapacitation chamber from the planet Zulon, it has become obsolete and was probably jetisoned as trash while on a visit in the 40's or 50's. It is well known that the Zulonesians were quite unconcerned with common courtesy and small time planet Earth rules of conduct as spelled out in the Inter Planetary Visiting guide for dummies. On a happier note try and see if there is any Sym 3 morph matter left over in the bottom of that unit, I know where the market has dried up on the stuff and could use the extra 3 trillion Degbars to buy me a new tin foil hat, mine is getting a little worn out, Glad to be of service as always, If you have any questions just shine a 6000 candle power flashlight into the sky in the shape of a Northern treefrog wearing a hardhat and leather sandals, and be sure to wave a ham and cheese croissandwich viggorously in the other hand, I will be there! You're nuts. That's a medieval torture device. The bottom has a mechanism that opens and closes so you can get someone's head inside and lock it in. Then you open the swinging door to throw a rat or cat inside and let them do their work.

cool find....what ever it is...looks like a pretty heavy duty latch on that thing...what ever it is that door must have had some heat or pressure on it to be built like that....reminds me of an old blacksmith tool my grand dad used to have....but that was a long time ago....when I was a kid. that would look cool on my patio!

Something that large and heavy probably has a manufacturer's stamp or plate attached, and a model number. Quick google should give you more info. Can see a number on the handle.

Well, obviously it's a little hard to tell with that photo but I believe it is an old concrete block making machine. These were very popular about 100 years ago and Sears sold several models. I have seen one once and many pictures. They made the concrete blocks with the stone or decorative pattern on them. Many old houses have these for the foundation. The machines had lots of hinged parts and handles etc. Can't be sure of course. I searched for a LONG time to finally find this one small picture. However there were many different designs.

Let me know what you think!
