What a cool find! It strikes me a Celtic, as in Bronze age - the spiral motif being what hit me. I am writing a book and would appreciate if you would keep me posted as to anything you learn on this, thank you in advance,

Very nice find. Those are not megolithic spirals from my part of the world, I would say they are middle-eatern or African but they could be Native American as well.
The spirals from megolithic sites like Newgrange where I live in Ireland are actually tracings of the sun's declination points throughout the solar year. They begin at the summer solstice going first one way until the winter solstice when the sun stays at the same point of declination on December 22, 23, 24, & 25th, then they reverse again. This is why they are not perfect spirals like on your medalion.
