The one piece is a wagon box staple with the ends reversed clinched. Don't know what that square piece is.

I'm wondering if it couldn't have been a pre-cursor to what we now use - bearings. Back before bearings, shafts would sit in something not totally unlike this and have grease or oil to break the friction. You can tell from the square indentations that this was the outside, as old bolts from the era had square heads rather than hex. So just guessing here, but I'd say is probably from some setup that used a long leather belt, whether from a tractor or a water wheel.
