We go to old dumps and abandoned properties, with permission of course, found this gizmo and am at a lost for any imaginary use! ☺ Anybody have a clue, somthing to start any research? No writting on it, the tip has a metal rivet like dot, thr claw opens and closes... The only thing I came up with was a bottle opener! ☺ Thank you for your onput.

I was thinking the same thing. But using the hammer would be hard if it moves. Unless it's just for removing a shoe

At 4 1/2 inches, it's smaller that it looks. On the hammer like end, is it solid?

I think it's for grabbing something or picking something up, turn it one way and the weight opens the jaws, flip it and the weight closes the jaws. Probably mounted on a long pole.

When I was a kid in grade school we had really tall old windows that opened at the top. I remember the janitor coming in to open or close the windows and he used a long pole with a gizmo like yours on the end.

Does the hammerhead end have any way of attaching a rope?Have you tried unscrewing the hammer head just the round piece?

How old is the site

It's an ooolddd... Farm land... The man who owned it like forever, and the son who is in his 70s was telling us the Dad was a bit of a hoarder (we went over to do work for the son and sure enough... He is his fathers son...) Lots and lots of cool, old piles of STUFF... But he's like an eagle and if you pick somthing up you better be putting it back in the exact spot it came from... He's a great guy, fun to hang out with and the stories are mesmerizing! Anyway.. It's an old place. :)

Yes it is solid, riveted like... It might have had a hook attached!?

Not yet... We will be cleaning it soon, I'll take pics, the attachment (handle) is metal with a hole that goes about a third up vertical and then another one drill horizontal.

We're thinking on the same thought :sly:

On the inside of the plier part. Is that writing toward the tip?

I think Bruce is on the right track. The reason I think a rope was attached is that would give gripping power to the jaw.It makes me think of a pruning pole but the jaw is a gripping type not a cutter. Also something else I noticed with the new pictures is the protrusion on the side didn't notice that before. Is it spring loaded to open the jaw or just gravity operated?

You say the handle is metal. Are the holes threaded?
