Congrats. On on your finds in your other 2 posts! Hope that "worth getting out of the truck" spot keeps paying you returns. I can't tell much from your pics. Here. Looks like a naturally fractured chert cobble or quartzite, possibly fossiliferous. Pictures of the two fractured ends might be helpful, thanks for the posts, happy-hunting.

Thanks! It has a totally flat side and then the other side is flat but at about a 40 degree angle. It stood out like a sore thumb appearing to have been cut. Interesting note, I found it in an area of very old iron ore mines that date back to the late 1800's. I want to swing a metal detector over it when I get home just to see what it will do because it is so heavy. Here is a couple of more pics. big rock1.jpgbig rock2.jpg

When asking what something might be you have to show all sides especially the flat side it is sitting on. It has a shape of something but without seeing the flat side we will never know. It does look like flint

These come into my local artifact shows frequently. And they are actually concretions. They are a harder, denser, 'ball' of sediment that form with softer material and when the erode out and get moved around, they can give the appearance of being something that man would have utilized. When i started collecting at around age 13, i had some that i thought were axes... But then i learned about them. Always pick everything up and question it though, cuz you never know!

Thanks for all the info and help tips y'all. I was almost certain when I found it that it was not an artifact, but it was just really strange and I know if I want some intel on what this could be this Forum is the place to go!

Well if it is anything I would call it a core.
