Looks like the old fashion devise we hung messages on. It would have had a spike that stood straight up.

Here is what I believe you have. This was in a box of stuff I bought at a garage sale a while back. From what I have learned its a part of some type of pie holder or pan holder, it can be adjusted depending on the size of the pot or dish. It looks similar but my disk is thin, maybe just a different style. I'll have to add to my whats it box and hope to get something like it later more complete

I was thinking the same a thermostat control for a chicken brooder looks exactly like them my brooder had two
