Tone have any ideas I was thinking a dagger hand guard? Solid brass found at site that dates to 1790 with a large civil war camp on property. Not saying it's either bit there wasn't much modern trash pulled out.

It looks like a drawer handle escutcheon to me. i.e. the square mounting hole.

Looks like the old fashion devise we hung messages on. It would have had a spike that stood straight up.

Here is what I believe you have. This was in a box of stuff I bought at a garage sale a while back. From what I have learned its a part of some type of pie holder or pan holder, it can be adjusted depending on the size of the pot or dish. I am missing another set of legs and looks like you disk is a match to the center portion. Just my two cents..

It looks similar but my disk is thin, maybe just a different style. I'll have to add to my whats it box and hope to get something like it later more complete
