A friend asked me to post this. He has been digging an old dump and has found about 10 or 15 of these. We have no idea what they are.
They are made from ceramic or clay. Most are glazed. A couple were unglazed. The glazed ones are a white as shown below. The non glazed are the natural clay / cement color. The bottoms are not glazed. Sizes are 3 inches long, 2 1/2 tall. It is 1 1/2 wide at the bottom and 3/4 wide at the top. The hole is about 3/4. The town that this dump serviced has a clay pottery that has been running for over 100 years.
Thanks for the help.

I would say insulator also but doesn't that type usually have holes in the base for attaching to something? and it looks to me like the base was broken off of some other part so...?

The bottoms on all of the ones found are smooth. If they were broken off of something I would think that they would be jagged. As for insulators I don't see any way to attach them. There are no holes in the bottom.

Dozer: Lifting lugs. This is what we were thinking too. How about lifting lugs for cement / clay laundry sinks from years ago.

It could be a tp holder. However the hole is 1 inch from the bottom. If tiles are about 1/4" thick that would leave 3/4". It would have to be a small roll of paper unless the wall was cut out behind the paper. Also the hole is not very refined. It is not round and is more of an oval shape. In fact the overall workmanship is ruff. Not what I would expect to see in a nicely tiled bathroom.

i was thinking pre made handles to be added to the jugs as they are in production.
