I found this metal detecting a CW camp. A week ago a friend I was with found one just like it in the same area a hundred yards or so from where I found this one. They both rang as good signals on the detectors but was kinda disappointed to find a rock unless of course it is some sort of meteorite shard as he said they were. I thought it may be a piece of coal from the camp site that may have gotten some metals melted into it or something.
It is very light weight for its size, very porous, and almost floats in water. It kinda reminds me of those lava rocks that mom used to have in her rock garden but not quite as porous as those and these were out in the middle of the woods. I thought pieces of meteorites would be much heavier and way more dense than this. None of the magnets I tried stuck to it. It looks mostly brown in the pics but turns black when wet. I don't know I've never been a rock collector and have never seen a meteorite. These are from Corinth Ms if that makes a difference. Anyway any ideas?
