I'm new to this hobby and my husband and I went on our 1st hunt the other day. Found this in a field that an elementary school primarily used for gym. School no longer exists and field is not frequented often except to cut thru. Found a couple inches deep and by itself...the white spots in the pics are small holes and the paper towel showing thru. Idk if it originally had holes or if it has rusted thru. It has no marks that I can see and I've only used soap and water to get dirt off of it. Agree with Mud Hut, leg off of a cast iron stove. You are on an old site, happy hunting! Sub 8-)

CAST IRON POT BELLY STOVE LEG.ZUTPHEN

I was thinking it looked too light to support a cast iron stove, but tin heaters, similar to this one, didn't require very substantial legs.

My husband thinks it is a spoon rest...it will probably never be solved because there is nothing on it. But sometimes I have problems thinking outside the box and like to see what others think. We will be going back soon so maybe we will find more pieces to the puzzle...or it will remain a mystery...either way it's the thrill of the hunt [emoji3]

As a WAG - the metal internal frame to a old padded leather tricycle seat.

I agree with the old stove leg ID, How old is the school? I ask because we once found a lot of really old iron bits at a school from the 1920's but we couldn't find any record of use before the school other than pasture. Turns out they held scrap drives there during WW2. Seems that happened quite a bit, and may be why strange iron chunks turn up at old schools so much.
