-Welcome to the net, this is the best place to get any answers- but first we will have questions-- is it hollow? can we see more angles and views of the object in hand, and perhaps the location of find.
But, sure, could be a candle holder, if hollow, it might have been an oil lamp. you'll get the answers, or a real good guess soon enough---- da Prof

Hi, thankyou for the welcome! It is hollow with a hole in the wider 'top' and the pointed bottom is solid. Will post another pic in a couple of hours.

I'm leaning towards a finial of some type? Does it look like there was another "loop or handle" on the other side that may have broken off? Also, can you tell if the hole had threads in it?
