Any Ideas? Primitive stonework?

Hey guy can you tell me anything about what this stone was used for? 5 1/4 inches long by 2 5/16 wide at the wide end. 1 1/4 inch wide at the narrow end. Seems to be made out of a green soapstone maybe. Heavy with groves wore in the face. Looks like someone later started to cut a section out as you can see in the second picture. Have no idea what it is. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Try posting this in our American Indian forum a little farther down the forum top page. They may be able to give you some info.

And, BTW, knowing where the artifact was found is always very helpful in the research. We don't need GPS coords but state and county would be nice.

It looks like some one began to carved a soap stone pipe but didn't get too far.
