Any Ideas On This?

I found this at a cellar hole in VA last weekend. The site is on a map produced in 1863 by the Engineer Bureau of the Confederate States War Department (J.F Gilmer), so the site dates at least back to 1863. Any guesses as to what it might be? This place is loaded with iron!

Thanks for looking and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It is a wagon box staple off of a wooden wagon. The ends were bent over to keep it from pulling out of the wood.

Cool. Can you show us an example, please creskol :icon_thumleft:
I was thinking a fold-down type handle for a pot or pail or box, and such like.
Cheers, Mike
