Any ideas on this decorative item?

Found this at an old cellar hole. It's fairly heavy, some pieces are broken (as you can see) and it has some gold gilt left on it. At the site I have found LCs from 1830s and 1840s but I really have no idea what this might be. There is nothing on the inside or any holes that indicate it was mounted on anything.

Is there a ring shape molded on the inside? Might be an inkwell top.

I agree with LD, I think it is part of a Victorian Inkwell. The pic of the one I have attached is similar; actually yours is somewhat earlier than the one pictured. Neat find Breezie
