I'm never ever going to sell anything I find, metal detecting is a hobby not a business for me but I'm curious of the value of some of my finds. People always ask, "What's it worth?" and I have no clue. Any ideas on the value of some of these objects.

I would like to know the value of each item

Item #1: 1803 Large Cent, looks to be AU-Details corroded.
Weak spot on 12 o' Clock reverse is not due to wear but deteriorate die on it's Sheldon variety

Item #2: Colonial Monogramed hand-engraved silver shoe buckle fragment.
Very hard item to put a price to, half of it is not there but what is there is in good condition. The big thing about it is that it is extremely historical due to the personal monogram, plus I know who owned it based on town records. Also, It was illegally made by someone avoiding taxes due to lack of tax marks next to maker's name.

Item #3: Display cases (I'm only showing my two best), full of buckles, musket balls, buttons, and other relics. I'm thinking of putting on loan at local museum

Regardless of value, they will always be worth more to me in historical value, that is what I tell people who ask the question, "What's it worth?"

No idea but cool finds. Bet if ya had em on that diggers show they'd bring big bucks. Good luck.

I have no idea on the value of your items except to ask how much fun was it to find them. Would you've had more fun in a yarn store while wife shopped?:laughing7:

It just isn't that easy to put a value on corroded or damaged coins. Almost all collectors want coins with original surfaces so it is pretty easy to say what they retail for in different conditions as long as they are undamaged. A more worn coin would be more in demand than a corroded or damaged coin in a higher grade. Not being in demand, a damaged coin would just be worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it at that time, which would vary depending on how badly someone wants it. It is just not a question that can really be answered. You can check ebay and see what similar coins go for, that is probably as close as you can get to finding out the value. I was able to fine a somewhat similar one that sold on ebay for $75, a little more time looking might turn up others.

To get any decent money for a dug copper coin it really has to be a rare one that is hard to find and be in great condition. Otherwise people can easily find the same coin that hasn't been dug. I have a buddy on here who has found a couple very rare old coppers. One was barely able to be id'd and he got $500 for it and the other was more rare and in better condition and he got $4200. The silvers on the other hand can come out of the ground and be in decent condition. Your LC is gorgeous and I know how hard it is to find them with that type of detail. Don't dare to put a value to it but I know that every one of mine is worth so much to me because it gave me a great memory and that amazing feeling you get when you see that disc in the hole. Hopefully one day one of us will find a Chain cent or a rare Fugio or something. Then you're talking some real value. Maybe this will be the year my friend

Yep, a world of difference in the surfaces for a dug and non dug coin, so you certainly can not go by book grade alone. If you got EF detail it wouldn't surprise me if the actual value would drop 2 grades down to VG or so.

Edit: Guess 2 grades would put it at fine.
