Thanks :)

Search revealed two Abner Leonards on an 1860 population census from Taunton Mass.

No middle names given, but one of them could be da man.

Tag looks to be that old and is a cool find!

Tag looks to be patriotic, also

I see an Eagle on top of a flag or shield bearing 13 stars, but i could wrong.

Did Abaither happen to be a Carpenter when he wasnt killing Redcoats?

You might just have made a historical find?

This is getting better and better.

Oval key return tags like this one were sold from the late 1800's all the way up to the 1950's. These illustrations from a 1929 catalog, show a couple of similar eagle tags. Note the Union shield stripes on the second example, as on yours.

sorry to comment on this very old post but if you are looking for info on the Leonards you should bring that to the Old Colony History Museum, which used to be the old colony historical society. They have a database of Leonards there that dates back as far as the 1600s I believe. They actually have many artifacts from the Leonard family there in the museum. If your curious and got the time stop by its in Taunton and if a very interesting place.
