L.P.E. Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis (1904) ??? really doesn't match the rest of the item.

Is there a school or fraternity or local activity that may have used these initials or letters in that area?

How about a bovine ear tag from the D.ept of A.g? L. P. E. = Livestock, Poultry, E????

That might help explain why it was in the river...

Just guessing.

First guess is the best, M.J.!

This 1-1/2" dia., nickel badge is listed and illustrated in Hendershott's book, 1904 St. Louis World's Fair Mementos and Memorabilia. (Of course, the individual badge number in the center is different.) No explanation is given for "D. A. 67," however. "Value Range...$100-200."

$100-200 in that conditon PBK?

Aw, c'mon... ::)

No.

Notice the quotation marks? That's Hendershott's stated value range for the item.

Here are his pricing guidelines: "Value ranges have been assigned based on items being in Extremely Fine condition... Items which might be in significantly less desirable condition would command lower premiums."

Thats what I thought... just don't want someone getting the wrong ideas about values... the fact that you ID'd it for sure is cool... Thanks PBK.

Just a little footnote. Found the following on an auction site. I wasn't registered so I couldn't see what it sold for.

"L.P.E. OFFICIAL BADGE 1904 WORLD'S FAIR. L.P.E. Louisiana Purchase Exposition 1-5/8" nickel plated official badge from the 1904 World's Fair. This has the original pin on the back and is signed "Steiner E-B Co. St. Louis." These were each individually stamped and numbered."

I've seen tons of different collectables for the LPE, but the above link is the only badge, (sometimes called a pin), I've seen for the fair.

is there any way to get a picture of the page in that book? I can't find it online.

Mike, as it turns out, the badge that Functional mentioned, which was auctioned by Heritage, is the identical example (#4420) illustrated in the book. Here's a link to the photo:
