These were found on a colonial era site in near Charleston SC ...they are made of brass. One of the ringed thingies is a little bigger than the other...any ideas??

Thanks guys... I was second guessing this at work last night because of those hooks/clamps/studs... I was originally thinking they gripped a leather or wood backing... I can imagine decorative ribbons or horsehair or cloth being used through those holes in the rossette which I also only imagined as 1700s.

I've seen these type of pins bent over on late Victorian - 1920s horse brasses.
