I found this yesterday in a City that did have some CW activity around it. Could it be cannon shot?
It weighs 1lb. 3.7 ozs. And the threaded hole is almost half way through, and only around a 1/4". But it looks to have hit where the groove is and ovalled the hole so it's not a troupe circle.
I had a comment of a gear shift knob, but it's solid lead, a little heavy for that, and I don't think a 1/4" shaft would last too long with solid lead and that weight.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!!! Thank You for You time and ideas!!
Happy Hunting!!!

Possibly a counter weight of some sort.
I found one of those once very similar to what you have there and it ended up being a shotput. The threaded holes are for adding or removing weight.

What's the diameter of the ball? If it's a shift knob as I replied before, it should be +/- 1 7/8 - 2" and the threads should be 3/8".
A 2" ball of lead will weigh ~ 1 .7 lbs, minus the whatever was removed for threads. So the 1 7/8" minus thread weight would be right at your 1 3.7lbs.
My brother used to make stuff like that in shop class for his '72 Nova.

Don,t know what your lead thing is but I like that little hammer head in your finds pic.You should put a new handle on it and put it to use! Is it brass? Make a good gun smithing hammer. For drift punches and the like!
