Found this at a site where we've found a lot of 19th and 18th century buttons and relics. Thought maybe a more modern tool but maybe not. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Plan to soak it (electrolysis) but would like to id it,

Thanks for the input! There doesn't seem to be an opening at the top like clippers or pliers. Kind of looks like a ball mold to me too, Wayne, but not very thick. Thanks again for y'alls input

Kind of small for hoof nippers, but that's what it looks like to me, with a hoof pick on the end of one handle. Nippers have thinner blades for cutting hoof wall, pull offs for removing shoes are larger and heavier built.

Soak them in apple cider vinegar for a few weeks. Then brush off the loose rust with a steel wire brush. Electrolysis would be your next step, but at least you'll have exposed more detail.

I would also say they are nips.

Probably too small for horse use. Could easily be nips for any use. I sold a pair of nips from the 1890's on ebay last year. They were jewelry nips.

Kind of resembles a tool for prepping dynamite. The cleaning will help the ID
